Call for Applicants – WEAT Leader (July 2025)

Dear WCA Community,

There will be an appointment of a new WCA Executive Assistants Team (WEAT) Leader. The WCA Board is currently overseeing WEAT, and recent team growth has created a need to formally appoint a leader.

Candidates are expected to fulfill their terms (24 months) and to spend at least 8 hours per week on average to work for the team. The qualities expected of candidates are:

  • Solid knowledge of the structure and workflow inside the WCA
  • Proficiency in English
  • Good communication skills and proficiency in English
  • A reasonable daily availability to deploy the duties
  • Team and project management capabilities

The application period for candidates to submit their candidacy documents is from now until July 28th, 2025, 23:59 UTC. Interested candidates can send the application privately to the WCA Board (board@worldcubeassociation.org).

The candidacy documents must be in PDF format, and must include:

  • Brief personal introduction.
  • Summary of activities done for the WCA.
  • Ambitions as the WEAT Leader of the WCA.

Candidates are additionally asked to send a copy of their applications which can be made public at the end of the application period.

The rights and duties of the WEAT can be found in WCA Motion 10.25.5.

After the application period, the WCA Board will make a selection by voting and will announce the new Leader, as described in Section 5 of WCA Motion 10.2025.0.

WCA World Championship 2027 Host City Announcement (July 2025)

Dear WCA Community,

The WCA Board together with the Major Championships Team (WMCT) is thrilled to officially announce that Uppsala, Sweden has been selected as the host city of the 2027 WCA World Championship.

The selection of Uppsala follows the highly successful Rubik’s WCA World Championship 2025 held in Seattle and marks a return to Europe for the WCA’s premier event, the first time since Paris hosted the Championship in 2017.

Sweden’s Regional Organization, SveKub, in collaboration with the WMCT, is committed to ensuring that the 2027 WCA World Championship reflects the spirit and talent within the speedcubing community. A WCA World Championship is a global gathering that unites our community as well as an opportunity to see the world’s best speedcubers compete and to crown the World Champions across all 17 official WCA events.

The Board and WMCT are looking forward to working with SveKub over the coming 24 months of intense preparation for the World Championships.

WCA World Championship 2025 to Welcome Record Number of Competitors in Seattle

The World Cube Association is excited to announce that the WCA World Championship 2025 is just around the corner! From July 3rd to July 6th, over 2,000 competitors from 74 countries will gather in Seattle, USA, for the largest official speedcubing competition in WCA history.

Held every two years, the World Championship brings the global cubing community together — not just to celebrate the passion we all share, but also to crown the world’s best speedcubers. And with everything planned for 2025, this edition is going to be the most exciting one yet.

What to Expect

This year’s event is more than just fast solves and world-class competition — it’s a celebration of the entire cubing community. The championship will be livestreamed on the WCA’s official YouTube channel, giving fans around the world the chance to follow the action live.

Both competitors and spectators can visit the WCA booth, which will feature:

  • Fun activities
  • Meet-and-greets with famous cubers
  • Cool goodies to take home

We’re also proud to share that Rubik’s will be the official sponsor of the event, supporting our mission to make speedcubing more exciting, engaging, and accessible. We’re especially grateful for their continued support over the years and their dedication to the cubing community.

Founded in 2004, the World Cube Association (WCA) is the official governing body for competitive speedcubing. It sets standardized rules, tracks official records, and fuels a thriving community across 165 countries. In its 20 year history, there have been over 14,000 sanctioned competitions and 265,197 unique participants at WCA competitions. The WCA is a champion for inclusivity and celebrates the passion for solving the iconic 3x3x3 Cube and other twisty puzzles in record-breaking time. The current World Record for the 3x3x3 now stands at 3.05 seconds set in 2025 by Xuanyi Geng.

Software Team Leader Announcement (June 2025)

We are pleased to announce that Gregor Billing has been re-appointed as WCA Software Team (WST) Leader. Gregor’s new term will be effective until 24th June 2027.

Gregor was selected by the WCA Board and approved in a vote, as described in Section 5 of our motion about WCA Committees and Teams.

The Board sincerely thanks Gregor for his willingness to remain on as the Team Leader for WCA Software Team and wishes him all the best in this new term.
